Asphodel Honey is a true emblem of Sardinia’s springtime bloom. It is derived from the nectar of the Asphodelus plant — one of the most symbolic wildflowers of the Mediterranean. The plant thrives in Barbagia, where its white, star-shaped blossoms illuminate the fields from March to May.

Though Asphodel also grows in regions like Liguria and Sicily, Sardinia’s dry climate, open pastures, and pristine soils make it the ideal habitat. The honey is almost colorless, with a fine, creamy texture and gentle sweetness. Its subtle vanilla finish and smooth mouthfeel have made it one of the island’s most cherished honeys — a source of pride for local beekeepers.

Light and soothing, this honey opens with floral and creamy notes, followed by a gentle vanilla tone. Its balanced sweetness and refined texture make it ideal for everyday use, both in sweet and savory pairings.

Pairing:

Delicious on fresh bread or pastries, and perfect with young Pecorino or goat cheese. Also ideal for yogurt, panna, or butter-based desserts.

Azienda Apistica Reina is a small family-run beekeeping enterprise based in Oliena, in the heart of Barbagia, Sardinia — a region globally renowned for the remarkable longevity of its inhabitants.

Balancing family, work, and her deep passion, Tiziana Reina always finds time for what truly matters to her: crafting some of the finest honeys in Sardinia.

“Our product is made from natural ingredients and produced sustainably,” she told us – “Il nostro prodotto è composto da ingredienti naturali ed è realizzato in modo sostenibile.”

Depending on the season and weather, the Reina family produces not only Millefiori and Abbamele, but also Thyme, Teucrium, Corbezzolo (Strawberry Tree), and Asphodel honey – some of the island’s most prized and rare varieties.

With great respect for nature, Tiziana works in harmony with the environment. There are even years when certain honeys — such as Corbezzolo, Asphodel, or Teucrium — are not harvested, allowing the bees and their ecosystem to regenerate naturally.
