Blackberry Honey (Frores de Arru) originates in the Oristano area of Sardinia, where bees gather nectar from spontaneous Rubus spp. growing along hedges and woodland edges during the summer bloom.

It is a monofloral organic honey recognized for its harmony of sweet and slightly tangy flavor, herbal and red-fruit notes, and slow crystallization.

In 2023, it received Two Golden Drops (Due Gocce d’Oro) at the prestigious Italian honey competition Tre Gocce d’Oro, which evaluates the purity and sensory excellence of honeys across Italy.

Refined and balanced, with fruity and herbal notes complemented by gentle tart undertones and a smooth, velvety finish. The flavor evolves from sweet berry tones to subtle herbal freshness, evoking Sardinia’s late-summer landscapes.

Pairing:

Ideal with fresh cheeses, yogurt, and pancakes, or as a sweet contrast to aged cheeses and whole-grain breads. Also perfect as a natural glaze for nuts, fruit, or baked pastries.

We first met Daniele Cossu in spring 2024, after he came highly recommended by our friends at Lolla Sardegna. Rafaela described Daniele as one of the most passionate beekeepers she had ever met — someone who is consistently recognized at Italy’s most prestigious honey competition, Tre Gocce d’Oro.

Speaking with Daniele feels like being in the presence of a true honey whisperer. Never before had we learned so many details about beekeeping, the production process, the different honeys, and what sets each one apart. Daniele comes across as someone who has devoted his life to one ultimate goal: producing some of the finest Sardinian honeys.

While it was Daniele’s celebrated Corbezzolo honey that first drew us in, we must point out that every other variety we tasted was equally intense and had a fabulous texture.

Daniele’s organic honeys range from the much-praised Corbezzolo to Asphodel, Chestnut, Mediterranean Maquis, Fennel, Thistle, Cistus, and more — all gathered in and around the pristine Sardinian hills of Simaxis and Nuoro, a region of the world known for its exceptional longevity.

🇮🇹 Due Gocce d’Oro – Grandi Mieli d’Italia 2023 (Three Golden Drops)

Awarded the Due Gocce d’Oro (Three Golden Drops) in 2023 — honoring excellence, purity, and regional character.

The Tre Gocce d’Oro – Grandi Mieli d’Italia (“Three Golden Drops”) is Italy’s most prestigious honey competition, organized annually by the Osservatorio Nazionale Miele since 1980. Expert panels conduct blind tastings to assess purity, floral typicity, and sensory balance across hundreds of Italian honeys each year.
