Story behind the bottle · Corte Odorico Classico
This wine reflects a deliberate stylistic choice by Corte Odorico to reinterpret Valpolicella Classico through a fresher, lighter lens. While remaining faithful to the territory, the focus is on elegance, lively acidity and aromatic clarity rather than extraction or power.
The blend showcases the expressive fruit of Corvina and Rondinella, complemented by the structure of Corvinone. A small proportion of dried grapes adds subtle depth, while preserving a dynamic, refreshing character. The result is a Valpolicella that feels authentic, modern and especially enjoyable when served slightly cool.
Notes in the glass
Bright ruby-red colour opening for small red berries, pomegranate and delicate floral notes. On the palate, it is fresh, lively and dynamic, driven by a pleasant acidity and a subtle savory edge that enhances drinkability. The finish is clean, balanced and refreshing, making it particularly enjoyable in warmer seasons.
Pairing: Perfect with pasta dishes, roast chicken, lamb, red meat, and a wide range of cheeses; also excellent slightly chilled during summer. Served slightly cooler, it goes fantastic with a pizza.
About the winery · Corte Odorico
Corte Odorico is the result of a family story that began in 1968, when Odorico Begalli became the owner of the vineyards he had previously worked as a sharecropper, between Pedemonte and Cengia, in the municipality of San Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. What started as a deep respect for the land soon turned into a lifelong passion for viticulture, a passion Odorico naturally passed on to his son Daniele.
While father and son worked side by side in the vineyards, Daniele began experimenting with winemaking in the 1980s, driven by curiosity and a desire to give voice to their grapes. In 1994, he built the family’s rustic farmhouse — not only a beloved home, but also the heart of the winery, complete with cellar, tasting room, and a traditional fruttaio for grape drying.
In 2009, the third generation joined the estate, giving birth to the name Corte Odorico, chosen as a tribute to Odorico himself — viticulturist, father, and grandfather, and the true cornerstone of the family. Harvest remains strictly manual, just as it was done in the past, with the involvement of the entire family. The best grape clusters are selected for a three-month appassimento, concentrating flavor and structure for the estate’s most emblematic wines: Amarone, Ripasso, and Recioto.
Today, the winery reflects a quiet balance between tradition and evolution: Daniele’s experience rooted in the land, and the fresh perspective brought by his son Nicodemo, trained in oenology. What unites them is a shared respect for Valpolicella and a commitment to wines that remain honest expressions of place and family.

From cellar to glas
Our own encounter with Corte Odorico happened by chance. On our way to Puglia in the autumn of 2025, we were looking for a simple overnight stop in Valpolicella — halfway between Hamburg and Ostuni. Having already discovered San Pietro in Cariano the year before, Elena came across this small, family-run winery offering hospitality right among the vineyards, in the historic Classico zone.
Arriving late in the evening, we opened a bottle of their Valpolicella Classico — and were immediately struck by its juiciness, freshness, and pure fruit expression. The following morning, although we didn’t manage to meet Malvina in person, we tasted more of the wines, which quietly confirmed what we had felt the night before. A few bottles travelled with us to Ostuni, followed by another visit on our way back home — and the beginning of a collaboration shaped not by strategy, but by shared values.
As Malvina later wrote to us:
“We are still very small, so you could proudly say you are our only retailers in Germany. That would truly make me happy, because collaborations born out of genuine pleasure are the ones we want. By choice, we have not entered large or medium import markets.”
Corte Odorico remains a winery defined by authenticity, family, and place — and for us, a reminder that the most meaningful partnerships often begin unexpectedly, over a friendly chat and a simple glass of wine.
The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified starting from fresh fruit. After fermentation, a second fermentation is triggered using approximately 15% dried grapes, followed by an extended maceration on the skins lasting around 25 days to gently extract colour, aroma and fine tannins.
Ageing takes place in large oak barrels for about six months, allowing the wine to soften without masking its fruit profile. The wine is then refined in bottle for more than three months before release, achieving balance and harmony while retaining freshness.
